SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 20, 2014) – Littler Global member BDS Asesores, the leading labor and employment firm in Central America, has expanded into Honduras by combining with ISO-certified Ulloa & Associates, the largest law firm in the northern region of Honduras. Ulloa & Associates, led by managing partner Marielena Ulloa, one of the country’s leading labor and employment attorneys, will be instrumental in expanding Littler Global’s presence throughout Central and Latin America.
“Through the expansion efforts of Littler Global member BDS Asesores, we are quickly covering the most important regions for employers with operations in Central and Latin America,” said Tom Bender and Jeremy Roth, co-managing directors of Littler. “Honduras is an important jurisdiction in Central America and utilizing the expansive resources and service offerings of BDS Asesores and Ulloa & Associates, Littler Global is well positioned to serve the legal needs of local businesses and their workforces.”
Ulloa counsels employers on a variety of labor and employment matters, including compliance and registrations with relevant employment authorities; inspections by the local labor board; negotiation and intervention in mediation processes between employers and employees; workplace safety and labor liability prevention; employee social security benefits; internal bylaws and codes of conduct; and employee termination. Her clients include several large multinational manufacturers who have operations in northern Honduras. Ulloa will be joined by her colleagues Gualberto Espinal Monteilh, Aníbal Eduardo Hernández Melgar, and Wilfredo Misael García Castillo.
According to Marco Durante, managing partner of BDS Asesores, “Marielena has extensive experience working with institutions and labor authorities in Honduras at the local and national levels, as well as with international organizations. Her previous leadership position at the preeminent law firm in Honduras provides instant name recognition and credibility on the ground.”
“This move affords me with the opportunity to leverage my deep ties to the local business and legal communities while offering my clients access to a global platform of services,” said Ulloa. “I look forward to collaborating with Littler Global member firms to serve our clients’ needs throughout Honduras and the broader Central and Latin American region.”
