Important Amendments to Law 1361 (Family Law), Effective July 26, 2017
New Legislation Enacted
Authors: Carlos Hernán Godoy, Partner & Amaranta Lara Márquez, Associate — Godoy Córdoba, Littler Global Colombia
Law 1857 of 2017 amends Law 1361 of 2009 by, among other things, creating a new and unique obligation for employers to provide a workday every six months for employees to share with their family. Such time may be provided by the employer or the “Family Compensation Fund” (Caja de Compensación Familiar). Employers will be able to adjust work schedules to allow employees to tend to family-related duties, such as accompanying immediate family members or tending to a dependent or disabled close family member.
